Subbasement Artist Studios (SBAS) is proud to work together with BWI Thurgood Marshall Airport to present a new exhibition of artwork by Baltimore based artists, Feats of Monumentality. Our mutual commitment to supporting local artists has led to our joint effort in the creation of this exhibition, which will be on view August 11, 2011 through January 20, 2012. The exhibition features the artwork of four artists: Evan Boggess, Linling Lu, Jeffrey Kent and Steven Pearson.
Feats of Monumentality, on the upper level of the BWI Thurgood Marshall Airport International Terminal, features large-scale abstract paintings by Baltimore-based artists who are emerging onto the forefront of contemporary painting. These artworks embody the colorful, playful, fearless aesthetic that is characteristic of Subbasement Artist Studios, and are innovative in their use of material, form, and technique. Although the practice of painting is thousands of years old, these four artists demonstrate that there are still frontiers of painting that have yet to be explored.
An artists’ reception takes place on Thursday, September 1, 2011 at BWI from 4:30pm – 6pm on the International Terminal, Concourse E of BWI Thurgood Marshall Airport. All four artists will be present to meet the interested public and to speak and answer questions about their work.
This exhibition is made possible by the generous support of Turner Development Group, Mike’s Moving and Storage, and Fine Arts Experience.
