Linling Lu was born in 1983 in Zunyi, Guizhou Province, China, and currently lives and works in Baltimore, USA. The artist is best known for her hard-edge, circular abstract paintings with concentric rings of color. Her human-scale tondos have been described as inducing states of meditation. Lu’s work also includes sculptures of interlocking wood blocks, shaped paintings and sewn fabric collages. Her abstractions have been compared to the Washington Color School painters such as Kenneth Noland. 

Lu received a BFA and MFA in painting from the Maryland Institute College of Art. Her work has been presented in numerous exhibitions, including The Delaware Contemporary Museum (2021), American University Museum (2022), and Kalamazoo Institute of Arts (2022), The Phillips Collection (2023), and The Walters Art Museum (2023-2025). Lu’s work is in the collections of Microsoft Art, Louis Vuitton, Capital One, City Center DC, Carl M Freeman Foundation, and the Embassy of the United States of America in Beijing. In addition, Lining Lu is featured at Modern Luxury, Washington Post, Washington City Paper, BmoreArt, Home and Design, House Beautiful, etc.
